The Yobe State Government has announced a temporary adjustment to official working hours for civil servants in the state in observance of the holy month of Ramadan.
The decision, approved by the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, was conveyed through a circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service on Friday, February 20. The directive takes immediate effect and will remain in place throughout the fasting period.
According to the circular signed by the Head of Service, Abdullahi Shehu, the adjustment is aimed at enabling Muslim workers to observe the Ramadan fast with greater ease while maintaining productivity across government offices.
“I am pleased to inform you that the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the adjustment of official working hours in the public service for the holy month of Ramadan,” the circular read.
Under the revised schedule, civil servants are to resume work at 8:00 a.m. and close at 3:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, which hold special religious significance during Ramadan, official working hours will run from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
The government clarified that the change is strictly temporary and applies only during the fasting period.
“This adjustment covers the month of Ramadan (fasting) only, and normal working hours shall commence immediately after the month of Ramadan,” the statement added.
The move reflects the state government’s recognition of the spiritual importance of Ramadan and its commitment to supporting workers as they balance religious obligations with official responsibilities. Normal working hours are expected to resume as soon as the Ramadan fast concludes.
