Hundreds of residents in Plateau State took to the streets on Monday morning in defiance of a government-imposed curfew, protesting a deadly Palm Sunday attack that claimed multiple lives in Jos North Local Government Area.

The demonstration began at Anguwan Rukuba, the reported scene of the killings, where visibly distressed and angry residents gathered as early as 9:00 a.m. to demand urgent action from authorities. The protest was captured in a live stream circulating on social media, showing large crowds chanting and expressing frustration over the persistent insecurity in the region.

Eyewitness footage indicated that protesters were deeply agitated, insisting that the curfew imposed by the state government was insufficient to address the recurring violence that has plagued parts of Plateau State. Many participants called for more decisive and lasting measures to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of communities.

The incident follows a wave of violence that has heightened tensions in Jos North, an area that has experienced periodic unrest in recent years. Residents have repeatedly raised concerns about security lapses and the slow response to crises.

Amid the growing unrest, Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang was reported to have arrived at the protest scene. His presence appeared aimed at addressing the concerns of demonstrators and calming the volatile situation, although it remains unclear whether his intervention immediately de-escalated tensions.

The protest underscores mounting public anger over the government’s handling of security challenges in the state. Demonstrators maintained that while curfews may provide temporary control, they do little to tackle the root causes of violence or deliver justice for victims.

Security experts have long warned that sustainable peace in Plateau State will require a combination of effective policing, intelligence gathering, and community engagement. Monday’s protest highlights the urgency of these concerns, as residents continue to demand accountability and long-term solutions.

As of the time of reporting, authorities had yet to issue an official statement addressing the protest or outlining additional security measures. However, the situation remains tense, with fears that further unrest could follow if decisive action is not taken.
