- The Osun State Government has rejected APC’s claims of poor infrastructure and teacher shortages in public schools
- TESCOM Chairman Temitope Mustapha described the allegations as false and politically motivated
- Mustapha said no public school in Osun is being abandoned or shut down under Governor Adeleke
The Osun State Government has dismissed claims by the All Progressives Congress that public schools in the state are suffering from poor infrastructure, teacher shortages, and declining student enrolment.
Speaking on Friday, May 1, in Osogbo during a one-day workshop for members of the state’s Timetable Committee, Chairman of the Osun State Teaching Service Commission, Temitope Mustapha, described the opposition’s allegations as false and politically motivated.
Mustapha said Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration has made education a priority and remains committed to improving both urban and rural schools across the state.
“No school is going into extinction in Osun State. In fact, our students in rural areas performed excellently in their NECO and WASSCE examinations, a feat that helped the state move from 30th to 7th position nationally,” he said.
He also dismissed reports that rural schools were being abandoned, insisting that such claims were being spread by “enemies of progress.”
“The insinuation that rural schools are closing down is false and peddled by enemies of progress. Under the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, no such thing has happened, and it will not happen,” Mustapha added.
According to him, the government has also deployed some of the newly recruited teachers to rural communities to strengthen staffing and improve learning outcomes in underserved areas.
Mustapha further charged officials responsible for preparing school timetables to remain diligent, noting that their role is central to the smooth running of academic activities.
“Every teacher, except principals and their vice principals, must be placed on 24 periods per week,” he said.
His remarks came in response to claims by the Director General of the APC Campaign Committee for the August 15 Osun governorship poll, Wole Oke, who accused the Adeleke administration of mismanaging state resources.
Oke had alleged that Osun lacked adequate school buildings and teachers, claiming public schools were losing students and no longer reflected the standard many residents once knew.
Osun labour faction endorses APC gubernatorial candidate at May Day rally
Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that a faction within the labour movement in Osun State, known as the Association of Concerned Local Government Workers, marked this year’s May Day celebration with a politically charged rally in Osogbo, where it openly endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
In his address, the coordinator of the association, Adedayo Adekunle, used the occasion to call for urgent reforms in public sector employment practices. He strongly criticised the increasing reliance on casual and temporary staffing, describing it as “barbaric, enslaving and unattractive to the best brains.”
