NYSC updates redeployment criteria for married female corps members.
  • NYSC no longer requires married female corps members to change their surname for redeployment
  • The updated policy retains other previous requirements for relocation requests
  • Strict compliance and monitoring of the new directive are mandated for state and FCT coordinators

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that married female corps members seeking redeployment will no longer be required to change their surname.

This was detailed in a circular signed by the Director of Corps Mobilisation, Abubakar Mohammed, and distributed to directors, acting directors, state coordinators, and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) coordinators.

Dated 25 November 2024, the circular, titled “Review of Criteria for Concessional Deployment/Relocation for Married Female Corps Members”, disclosed that the NYSC management had approved adjustments to the requirements for granting redeployment or relocation to married female corps members.

It clarified that state coordinators are to be informed that Changing a maiden name to that of a spouse is no longer a requirement for the approval of such requests by married female corps members.”

The document also stated, “Other requirements remain as they were.”

The NYSC further emphasised that state and FCT coordinators must adhere strictly to these updated directives, while directors in area offices are tasked with overseeing their implementation.

FG lifts ban on NYSC postings to private sector, effective with 2024 Batch C

Meanwhile, TheRadar previously reported the recent change made by the federal government by lifting the ban on posting corps members to private sector organisations.

This new development was announced on Monday, November 18, by the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, and is set to take effect with the commencement of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Course.

Also, this is done in a bid to correct the previous policy which was criticised by many as limiting the career prospects of NYSC members.
