- NSGF chairman Inuwa Yahaya condemned the Jos North attack in Plateau State
- He praised Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s swift imposition of a curfew and security deployment
- Northern governors pledged continued support for armed forces and regional peace initiatives
The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, on Monday strongly condemned the attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing it as “unfortunate, reprehensible, and completely at variance with the cherished values of Northern Nigeria.”
Governor Yahaya made the remarks shortly after the NSGF concluded its quarterly meeting at the Gombe State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja. The forum had reviewed security developments across the region and reiterated its commitment to confronting prevailing security and socio-economic challenges affecting Northern communities, according to a statement signed by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Misilli.
Highlighting the gravity of the Jos North attack, Yahaya said: “Such acts of violence are alien to the North, a region historically known for coexistence, mutual respect, and enduring brotherhood among diverse communities.” He urged residents, particularly in affected communities, to remain calm, avoid reprisals, and resist any temptation to take the law into their own hands.
The NSGF chairman called on community leaders, religious figures, youth organisations, and all stakeholders to collaborate in the interest of peace and stability. He commended Caleb Mutfwang for the swift response, including the imposition of a 48-hour curfew in Jos North and the prompt deployment of security assets to restore order.
“These timely measures are critical in preventing further breakdown of law and order,” Yahaya said, describing Plateau State’s actions as demonstrating leadership, responsibility, and genuine commitment to protecting lives.
Reaffirming the forum’s solidarity with security agencies, the Gombe governor stressed that Northern governors would continue to provide necessary support to the armed forces and other security bodies. He expressed confidence that the perpetrators of the attack would be apprehended and brought to justice.
Yahaya concluded by extending condolences to the government and people of Plateau State, particularly families who lost loved ones, while praying for the peaceful repose of the deceased and a speedy recovery for those injured.
