1. NLC slams IMF for denial of fuel subsidy removal: The Nigeria Labour Congress has criticised the International Monetary Fund for denying responsibility for the Nigerian government’s recent removal of the subsidy on petrol.

In a statement on October 27, NLC National President Joe Ajaero criticised the IMF for presenting its harmful recommendations as growth strategies, which have led to increased socioeconomic hardship and stagnation in Nigeria and other nations that have followed their misguided advice.

2. Tinubu not T-Pain, feels Nigerians' pain, says Onanuga: Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu's spokesperson, has refuted claims that the president is indifferent to Nigerians' struggles following criticism circulating on social media.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics on October 27, Onanuga emphasised that Tinubu is aware of Nigerians' challenges and is committed to improving their lives.

3. FG plans tax overhaul to access $750m W’Bank loan: The Federal Government is pressing ahead with critical tax reforms to boost tax revenue and efficiency and meet the requirements for a $750 million loan from the World Bank.

This loan project is a part of the broader $2.25 billion approved by the World Bank for Nigeria on June 13, 2024, to bolster Nigeria’s economic stability and support its vulnerable populations.

4. Dikko seeks rejig of electoral laws: Katsina State Governor Umar Dikko Radda has told the Senate that the country’s electoral laws require continuous amendments. The governor said democracy, being in its early stages in the country, required crucial attention to address ongoing challenges through legislative reforms.

Radda, who was represented by the Secretary to the Katsina State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Garba Faskari, spoke in Katsina during the Northwest zonal legislative session on electoral reforms with the theme: Legislation and Participation of Women and Young Persons in Election and Leadership, focusing on women and youth participation in politics.

5. FG to showcase climate innovations at COP29 in Baku: Ahead of Nigeria’s participation in COP29, which will hold in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11-22, 2024, National Coordinator and Executive Director of the Made in Nigeria Project Office, Nwabueze George, has confirmed that the country’s pavilion and exhibition stand will spotlight cutting-edge solutions, policies, and initiatives that underscore Nigeria’s dedication to climate resilience and sustainable development.

George outlined the goals of the country’s presence at COP29 during a press conference in Lagos.
