1. Removing fuel subsidy before fixing refineries a mistake — SAN: A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Paul Obi, has emphasised the need to revitalise Nigeria’s public refineries to mitigate the country’s current economic hardship.
The lawyer shared his views during an interview following his conferment with the SAN title, alongside 86 others, at a ceremony in Abuja.
2. Reps propose free Internet for public schools, hospitals: The House of Representatives has taken initial steps to provide free Internet services in selected public places for Nigerians.
This follows the passage of a bill last week during its first reading titled, “An Act to provide the legal framework for the free internet access programme in selected public places in Nigeria and for other related matters,” sponsored by Mr. Abubakar Kusada, the representative of Kankia/Ingawa/Kusada Federal Constituency, Katsina State.
3. Dangote meets marketers Tuesday over new petrol price: The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria is poised for talks with Dangote Petroleum Refinery between October 15 and 16 to finalise agreements on the cost and lifting of petrol from the plant.
The $20bn Lekki-based refinery had asked the Petroleum Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria to resend its request for petrol lifting on October 13.
4. Father petitions Senate over daughter’s withheld UTME result: A father has petitioned the Senate over the non-release of his 16-year-old daughter’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) 2024 Result by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
In a petition submitted through a senator, Neda Imasuen, Obioha accused a JAMB supervisor of giving his 16-year-old daughter his phone number after the exam, suggesting inappropriate intentions.
5. Ex-Green Eagles goalkeeper, Peter ‘Flying Cat’ Fregene is dead: Former Green Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Fregene, is dead. Segun Odegbami announced his death on October 13.
Odegbami, Peter Fregene’s friend and ex-international, said the legend died after a protected illness in the presence of his wife, Tina, and two of his children.
