1. FG unveils new policies to curb maternal mortality: The Federal Government, through the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, has rolled out six major policy documents aimed at reducing maternal deaths in Nigeria. 

The initiative is designed to guarantee safer delivery experiences for Nigerian women, regardless of their background, income level, or geographical location.

2. Tinubu releases N15 billion to prevent major flood crisis: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an emergency release of N15 billion to avert an impending flood disaster across the country.

Vice President Kashim Shettima announced the move on Wednesday, April 16, during a workshop focused on improving flood risk monitoring and coordination, held at the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in Abuja.

3. Boko Haram suspects arrested in Lagos — CJTF: The Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) has apprehended hundreds of suspected Boko Haram members in Lagos State.

Commander of the Lagos CJTF, Mr. Kumar Sanda, disclosed this at an award event on Wednesday, April 16. 

He said the arrests were part of intensified efforts to block insurgents and bandits fleeing the North from settling in Lagos.

4. Atiku says coalition to remove Tinubu in 2027 gaining momentum: Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reaffirmed his commitment to forming a broad-based political coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a meeting with National Opinion Leaders in Abuja, Atiku described the coalition as a fast-moving train “with multiple stops to bring on board Nigerians of all shades” in the push for better governance.

5. U.S. student visa cancellations spark panic among Nigerian, international students: A wave of sudden visa cancellations and legal status terminations is causing chaos among international students in the U.S., including Nigerians.

An Associated Press review reveals that at least 901 students from 128 institutions have been affected. Advocacy groups fear the actual number could be even higher, raising concerns about the future of affected students.
