1. Tinubu will not extend Rivers emergency rule unnecessarily, says Minister: The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will lift the state of emergency in Rivers State as soon as normalcy is restored. 

Speaking in an interview with The Nation, Idris stated that once the president assessed that order had been restored, he would reinstate all democratic structures in the state.

2. Adeleke threatens to depose monarchs of warring communities: Governor Ademola Adeleke has warned the traditional rulers of Ifon and Ilobu communities in Osun State that they risk being deposed if violent clashes over land disputes persist. 

Following the imposition of a 24-hour curfew in the affected areas, The Nation reported that during a meeting with the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Peter Akinyooye, and the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olaniyan, Adeleke expressed his frustration over the continued unrest. 

He allegedly threatened to issue dethronement letters to the monarchs should they fail to restore peace in their communities.

3. Team New Nigeria seeks to unseat Tinubu in 2027: A new political movement, Team New Nigeria (TNN), has declared its intention to replace President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 elections. 

The group accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of implementing reckless economic policies that have placed the country on the brink of collapse.

4. Elumelu Foundation’s beneficiaries raise $4.2bn, pull 2m Africans out of poverty: The Founder and Chairman of the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), Tony Elumelu, has revealed that beneficiaries of the foundation have collectively raised over $4.2 billion in revenue and lifted more than two million Africans out of poverty. 

Speaking at an event in Abuja, Elumelu highlighted the impact of the foundation’s entrepreneurship programmes, emphasising their role in fostering economic growth and reducing poverty across the continent.

5. Inspector-General warns against unlawful detention: The Inspector-General of Police (IG), Kayode Egbetokun, has directed police officers to respect fundamental human rights when handling pre-trial detentions. 

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IG cautioned against unlawful or prolonged detentions, warning that such actions could erode public trust in the police.
