5 issues in the news that should matter to you today

1. Dangote slashes petrol loading price to N825/litre: The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, on Wednesday, announced a reduction in the ex-depot (gantry) price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, commonly referred to as petrol, by N65.00.

According to Dangote, this adjustment is designed to provide essential relief to Nigerians ahead of the Ramadan season.

2. NAFDAC DG raises the alarm over death threats: The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has decried threats to her life and the safety of agency staff.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, February 26, Adeyeye disclosed that NAFDAC officials face constant danger while cracking down on fake and substandard pharmaceutical products across the country.

3. IBB dancing on graves of June 12 martyrs – Opadokun: A chieftain of the National Democratic Coalition, Ayo Opadokun, has described former military ruler General Ibrahim Babangida’s recent admission of wrongfully annulling the June 12, 1993 election as pretentious, dubious, and lacking remorse.

Reacting to Babangida’s 420-page autobiography, Journey in Service, on Wednesday, February 26, Opadokun asserted that the former military dictator did not disclose anything new but merely rehashed widely known facts under the guise of statesmanship.

4. Election cases: APC accounts seized over N8.9bn debts, says Ganduje: The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, on Wednesday, February 26, sought a bailout for the ruling party over N8.9 billion election debts.

Ganduje revealed at the National Executive Committee meeting of the APC, held a day after the party held its national caucus meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, that the party’s accounts had been garnished following the huge debt resulting from the cases filed by the opposition parties to challenge the elections of President Bola Tinubu, APC governors, and legislators.

5. Made-in-Nigeria helicopter ready soon, says NASENI engineer: The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has announced that the first Made-in-Nigeria helicopter is nearing completion and will soon take its maiden flight.

Speaking at a Focus Group Engagement in Kaduna, Engr. Kareem Aduagba, Project Manager at NASENI’s Aeronautics and Air Vehicle Development Institute, confirmed that significant progress had been made on the indigenous helicopter, which would soon be officially recognised as the “Nigerian Chopper.”
