1. Tinubu arrives Dar es Salaam for Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit: On Sunday, January 26, President Bola Tinubu arrived Dar ‘es Salaam, Tanzania, to attend the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, which starts on Tuesday, January 28.
The President, who arrived at 10.20 p.m. (8.20 p.m. Nigerian time), was received by Hon. Ali Suleiman Ameir, Tanzania’s Minister of State, Office of the President.
2. Opposition lambasts Buhari over ‘only God can fix Nigeria’ comment: Major opposition parties in the country have berated former President Muhammadu Buhari for urging Nigerians to beseech God to revive Nigeria instead of admitting that successive All Progressives Congress-led government has failed the masses.
Reacting, the National Publicity Secretary of New Nigeria People’s Party, Ladipo Johnson, stated that Buhari’s utterances were a reflection that the APC-led government had been deceiving the people despite knowing that it had no clue about the nation’s problems.
3. JAMB introduces mock UTME for underage candidates: The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has introduced a mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination for candidates below the age of 16.
The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, explained that the mock UTME is not for the purpose of tertiary institution admission but for underage seeking to test their ability.
Oloyede spoke on Sunday, January 26, at a meeting with media executives in Lagos, where he also announced that this year’s UTME will hold on March 8, 2025.
4. 22 soldiers, 70 terrorists killed in Borno military operation: The Defence Headquarters has confirmed the deaths of 22 soldiers and over 70 insurgents during an ongoing military operation in the Timbuktu Triangle, a notorious terrorist stronghold in Borno State.
The operation, conducted by troops of Operation Hadin Kai, according to the DHQ, began on January 16, 2025, and has focused on dismantling terrorist enclaves in the region.

Colombia responds to Trump’s sanction, slams 25% tariff on US imports: On Sunday, January 26, Colombia's President, Gustavo Petro, announced 25% tariffs on US imports in a tit-for-tat move after US President Donald Trump hiked taxes on Colombian goods and sanctioned the country’s leaders after Petro refused to accept migrant deportation flights.
Writing on X, Petro initially said he would impose 50% tariffs on US goods, but later deleted the post and announced that he had instructed his minister for external trade “to raise tariffs on imports from the US to 25%.”
