The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced that it will release the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External today, Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

The development was disclosed in an internal circular signed by the Council’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations and obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday. According to the circular, the results will be formally released by the Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, at 10:45 a.m.

The notice stated: “Result of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External will be released on 3rd February 2026 by the Registrar/Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, at 10:45 am. In view of the above, staff are enjoined to assemble at the Conference Hall at 10:30 am to witness the event.”

The SSCE External examination is primarily designed for private candidates seeking secondary school certification outside the conventional school system. It caters largely to candidates who were unable to sit for the internal examination conducted for school-based students or those who wish to improve on previously obtained results.

NECO conducts the SSCE External annually as part of its mandate to broaden access to educational assessment and certification in Nigeria. The examination plays a critical role for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions, as well as those requiring the certificate for employment, professional advancement, or personal development.

Over the years, the SSCE External has provided an alternative pathway for learners who, for various reasons, could not complete their secondary education through the regular school system. Education stakeholders have often described the examination as an important tool for promoting inclusiveness and lifelong learning.

Although details of candidates’ performance are yet to be officially disclosed, the release of the results is expected to generate significant interest nationwide, particularly among private candidates who have been awaiting the outcome of the examination. Successful candidates will be able to use their results for admissions processing, job applications, and other official purposes.

The announcement comes amid heightened activity in the education sector, with other examination bodies also unveiling schedules and reforms for upcoming assessments. Observers note that the timely release of results is crucial to ensuring that candidates are not unduly delayed in pursuing their academic or career goals.

NECO has consistently urged candidates to access their results only through approved channels and to beware of fraudsters claiming to offer result upgrades or early access. Further details on result checking procedures are expected to be made available shortly after the official release.

The formal unveiling of the results today marks the culmination of the 2025 SSCE External examination process and reinforces NECO’s commitment to efficient examination management and timely dissemination of results.
