The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that 13 candidates scored the highest in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), with three of them achieving the highest score of 367 out of the total score of 400. 

The Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede made the announcement during a presentation at JAMB’s policy meeting in Abuja on Thursday July 18. 

He also revealed that only 8,401 candidates scored above 300 in the examination, 77,070 scored 250 and above while 439,974 candidates scored 200 and above.

The top scorers scored within 367 to 363.

Nigerians react to UTME top scorers’ list

Some Nigerians reacted to the news congratulating the candidates and hailing the candidates from their state. Some expressed worry that none of the top scorers came from their state, while others claimed a tribe has been marginalised even in education.

“Misplaced priority”: Nigerians react as FG bans admission for under-18 candidates

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the Federal Government had announced a ban on admission for underage candidates into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman made the announcement on Thursday during the 2024 policy meeting on Admissions to tertiary institutions organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, (JAMB).
