To facilitate emergency repairs by the Federal Ministry of Works, the Lagos State Government will shut down Eko Bridge and redirect traffic.

This was revealed by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi in a statement on Friday, September 13.

Eko Bridge to undergo repairs starting September 16

The Eko Bridge is expected to reopen in the second week of November.

Osiyemi explained that the repairs would be conducted in four phases, with the bridge being either fully or partially closed at different times based on the work schedule.

He assured that officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be stationed at both the rehabilitation zones and alternative routes to reduce travel delays and inconvenience.

As a result, Osiyemi advised motorists to take the following alternative routes while the repairs are underway:

Motorists going to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue could utilise the service lane at Alaka to get to Costain and then proceed onto Eko Bridge for the remainder of their trip.

Motorists travelling to the Island could alternatively use Costain to get onto Eko Bridge and then continue to Apongbon for their final destinations.

Drivers can also reach Apongbon, travel towards Eko Bridge, and then connect to Costain to access Funsho Williams Avenue.

Alternatively, motorists may opt to use Costain towards Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue or take Apapa Road from Costain, linking through Oyingbo and Adekunle to access the Third Mainland Bridge.

For those heading to Surulere, it is recommended to use Costain to reach Breweries, proceed in the direction of Abebe Village, and then link to Eric Moore/Bode Thomas for their final destinations.

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the Lagos State Government extended its work-from-home policy for its workers for the next three months.

TheRadar compiled numerous reactions from Nigerians following the extension of the work-from-home initiative. Some believed the initiative was a bad idea as it didn't extend to private workers.
