Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has pledged ₦20 million compensation for each of the three soldiers killed during a recent terrorist attack in Kaiama Local Government Area, alongside ₦5 million support for each of the six officers who sustained injuries during the operation.
The governor made the announcement on Tuesday during a visit to the injured soldiers receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital in Ilorin. He praised the bravery of the personnel and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security forces operating in the state.
AbdulRazaq stated that several of the attackers were neutralised during the confrontation, describing the fallen soldiers as heroes who “paid the supreme price” in defence of the nation.
Earlier, the governor had confirmed that three soldiers were killed when terrorists attacked a military position in Kemanji community, Kaiama Local Government Area, in the early hours of Monday. The assault reportedly began around 3:00 a.m. with the detonation of an explosive device targeted at the military camp, causing significant damage and chaos in the area.
According to local accounts, the attackers had issued a threat letter days before the incident, heightening tension among residents. During the raid, gunmen reportedly fired indiscriminately, forcing villagers to flee for safety as security operatives, including soldiers and local vigilantes, engaged them in a prolonged gun battle lasting several hours.
AbdulRazaq praised the fallen personnel for their courage, noting that their swift response prevented the attackers from infiltrating the community or carrying out kidnappings as intended. He extended condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers and assured that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.
“My sincere condolences are with the families and loved ones of these great men who have paid the supreme price in the service of our fatherland,” the governor said. “We will never forget them and others like them in various theatres across the country.”
He further assured that the state government would continue to support affected families and intensify efforts to strengthen security infrastructure across Kwara State.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers also made away with military patrol vehicles and motorcycles before retreating. Meanwhile, several residents fled their homes amid fears of further attacks, as the community remained on edge following the incident.
The injured soldiers are currently receiving medical care, while security agencies continue investigations into the attack.
