The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has relieved Shehu Wada Sagagi of his duties as Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry with immediate effect.

The decision was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. According to the statement, Sagagi has been directed to hand over the affairs of the ministry to the Director of Commerce without delay.

While confirming the dismissal, the state government acknowledged Sagagi’s contributions during his time in office. Governor Yusuf commended the former commissioner for his efforts in advancing key sectors, particularly in politics, religious engagement, and the promotion of small and medium enterprises within the state.

“The Governor appreciates his service and dedication to the development of Kano State,” the statement noted, adding that Sagagi’s role in supporting economic initiatives and community engagement had been recognised.

Despite the removal, Yusuf expressed goodwill towards the former commissioner, wishing him success in his future endeavours. He reassured residents that his administration remains committed to delivering effective governance and improving the quality of public service across the state.

The statement further explained that the move forms part of a broader effort by the administration to restructure its system for enhanced efficiency and long-term development. Observers believe the decision may signal further adjustments within the state cabinet as the government seeks to reposition key sectors.

Although no immediate replacement has been announced, the directive for the Director of Commerce to assume interim responsibility suggests a transition period within the ministry.

Political analysts note that cabinet reshuffles are often used by governments to reinvigorate policy direction, address performance gaps, and align leadership with evolving priorities. In Kano State, the latest development reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen administrative capacity and accelerate economic growth.

As the administration continues its reform agenda, attention will likely focus on subsequent appointments and how they shape the state’s investment and commerce landscape.
