The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has affirmed that he has no preferred aspirant ahead of the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) party primaries, vowing not to interfere in the selection of candidates for elective offices.
Sani made the declaration on Tuesday while breaking the Ramadan fast with members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly in Kaduna. He urged aspirants seeking party nominations to rely on support from party members rather than political godfathers.
“My advice to every aspirant who is seeking any office is to get the support of party members. I have no anointed candidates in the coming primaries that will take place between April and May this year. I will abide by what the people decide,” the governor said.
He emphasised that the primaries must be transparent and credible to maintain unity within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. “I will not interfere with the primaries or the selection process. Whoever emerges as the choice of the people will have my full support,” Sani added. He noted, however, that his only preferred candidate on the national stage remains President Bola Tinubu, whom he pledged to support for re-election in 2027.
The governor advised party members to close ranks and work towards APC’s success at all levels. He urged aspirants who may lose out in the primaries to resist the temptation to act against the party. Reflecting on his own political journey, Sani recalled being shortchanged during a previous APC congress, when many of his supporters were prevented from securing party positions. “At that time, some people wanted me to work against the party. I told them I would not work against the house that I helped to build. As God would have it, I am the governor today,” he said.
Sani warned that opposition parties might attempt to exploit internal grievances, especially after the primaries, to weaken the APC. “The opposition will try to instigate some members, especially after the primaries, because our party is the only party that is still standing. We should resist this temptation. The party belongs to all of us,” he said.
He also highlighted that opposition campaigns would likely focus on the country’s security challenges. According to the governor, the situation in Kaduna State has improved since he assumed office in 2023, with his administration reopening 535 schools and 85 health facilities previously shut due to insecurity. Infrastructure development remains a priority, with construction ongoing on the 35-kilometre Bagoma–Gagumi Road linking 62 farming communities in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, and contracts awarded for the Mando–Birnin Gwari Road project.
Governor Sani’s remarks signal a commitment to internal party democracy and underscore the APC leadership’s effort to maintain cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.
