- The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has halted Law admissions in eight universities for the 2025/2026 academic session
- The suspension follows the Council of Legal Education’s (CLE) decision to sanction the institutions for violating admission regulations
- Unlike the others, the Nigerian Police Academy’s Law programme will remain suspended for two sessions (2025/2026 and 2026/2027)
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the suspension of Law admissions in eight universities for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The decision follows the Council of Legal Education’s (CLE) suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in the affected institutions due to violations of regulatory procedures.
JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday, January 29, listing the affected universities as:
1. Kwara State University, Malete, Ilorin, Kwara State
2. Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State
3. Redeemers University, Ede, Osun State
4. Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State
5. Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State
6. Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State
7. Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State
8. Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State
The suspension of the Law programme at the Nigerian Police Academy will extend beyond the 2025/2026 session to also include the 2026/2027 academic session.
“As a result, JAMB will not approve admissions for candidates seeking to enroll in the Law programme at these universities for the 2025/2026 academic session.
“Furthermore, the Nigerian Police Academy’s Law programme will remain suspended for the 2026/2027 session as well,” the statement read.
The Nation reports that a source from one of the affected universities admitted that the decision was a consequence of past admission quota violations.
"We exceeded the approved quota about five years ago, and this suspension serves as a deterrent to future violations," the source revealed.
The suspension reinforces JAMB and CLE’s commitment to maintaining regulatory standards in legal education across Nigerian universities.
