JAMB launches probe into 2025 UTME results amid complaints from candidates.
  • JAMB acknowledges complaints over the 2025 UTME results released on Friday, May 9
  • Experts have been invited to investigate, including Computer Professionals of Nigeria, education assessors, and Vice Chancellors
  • JAMB assures transparency and pledges to implement remedial measures if errors are found

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has responded to a wave of public complaints following the release of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.

The results, which were officially published last Friday, May 9, have prompted an unusual volume of grievances from candidates across the country, prompting the Board to expedite its annual post-examination review process.

In a statement released by JAMB's Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Board acknowledged the magnitude of the concerns and emphasised its commitment to transparency and accountability.

“We’ve never had this avalanche of complaints. We’ve invited experts to investigate our systems. If there were glitches, we’re ready to own and remedy the situation,” the Board stated.

JAMB's annual system review, typically conducted months after the examination, has now been fast-tracked.

The comprehensive evaluation covers three key phases: registration, the examination itself, and the release of results.

The Board reiterated its policy of rescheduling tests for candidates affected by technical disruptions, ensuring that every applicant has a fair chance to take the exam.

The Board also expressed concern over complaints arising from specific states across the federation.

These reports are currently under detailed scrutiny to determine the nature and extent of any technical irregularities.

To aid the investigation, JAMB has enlisted the expertise of several professional and academic bodies.

These include the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria, Chief External Examiners who are heads of tertiary institutions, the Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa, as well as measurement experts and Vice Chancellors from various universities.

“If it is determined that there were indeed glitches, we will implement appropriate remedial measures promptly, as we do in the case of the examinations themselves,” the Board assured.

The latest developments come amid growing concerns among students and parents about the integrity of the 2025 UTME results.

JAMB has urged the public to remain patient as investigations continue, promising that transparency and fairness will guide all actions moving forward.

For now, affected candidates are advised to await further communication from the Board regarding any decisions or corrective actions that may be taken.

2025 UTME: only 21.5% score above 200 as JAMB probes 2,157 candidates for malpractice

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) released the official performance statistics for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), revealing that only 21.5% of candidates scored above 200.

Out of the 1,955,069 candidates who sat for the exam across Nigeria, only 420,415 (approximately 21.5%) scored above 200.

The majority of candidates, about 78.5%, scored 200 or below, and only 1.16% of the 40,247 underage candidates allowed to write the exam met JAMB’s exceptional ability threshold.
