The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that the third and final phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration will resume on Monday, May 11, 2026, giving eligible Nigerians another opportunity to register ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 5, by the Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC said the exercise will run until Friday, July 10, 2026. The commission described the phase as the final window in the current nationwide registration cycle.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission wishes to inform the general public that the current nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise will resume for its third and final phase on Monday, 11th May 2026,” the statement read.
INEC explained that the second phase of the exercise was suspended on April 17, 2026, to allow officials clean up the voter register after its publication for claims and objections by registrants.
According to the commission, the fresh registration window is open to Nigerians who have turned 18 and are eligible to vote, as well as those who were unable to register during the earlier phases.
“During this period, eligible citizens who have attained the age of 18, as well as those who were unable to register during the earlier phases, should seize this opportunity to do so,” INEC said.
The commission also urged already registered voters seeking to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards, or correct personal details to make use of its online portal or visit INEC offices across the country.
INEC said the next stage of the process will be the public display of the voters’ register for claims and objections from July 23 to July 29, 2026, allowing Nigerians to verify entries and help improve the credibility of the register.
“This statutory exercise provides an important opportunity for citizens to scrutinise the register and assist the Commission in ensuring its accuracy, completeness and credibility,” the commission said.
Reassuring the public of its readiness, INEC said all arrangements have been concluded for the smooth conduct of the exercise and urged eligible Nigerians to take part in strengthening the country’s electoral process.
INEC postpones voter revalidation exercise until after 2027 general elections
Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced the postponement of its planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise until after the 2027 general elections.
The decision followed deliberations between the Commission and Resident Electoral Commissioners. The Voter revalidation aims to clean up the voter register by removing duplicates, underage, deceased, and ineligible voters.
