  • Nigerians began nationwide protest against bad governance today, August 1
  • Counter protesters are also protesting against the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest
  • In the process of being counter protests, a participant committed a blunder when he complained of hunger, to the chagrin of Nigerians online

The nationwide protests have commenced in some cities in Nigeria, like Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Lagos and Abuja, among others.

While some Nigerians are protesting against hunger and bad governance, there are a section of people protesting to say no to the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest.

In a video posted on social media, what was meant to be a counter protest in Abuja took a humorous turn when one of the protesters complained of hunger while protesting against those protesting against hunger and bad governance.

The man, who was interviewed by a news outlet said: “If you want to drink garri now, N1000 will not take care of drinking garri. Before now, N100 will take care of drinking garri. Now, we are coming to make people know that things are very hard with us. Let him consider us.”

His fellow protesters angrily asked him “Oga what are you saying?”

Many Nigerians are finding the man’s blunder hilarious and believe that even if he was paid to lie, he couldn’t keep to his side of the bargain because “hunger forced the truth out.”

Police deny claims of restricting Nigerians’ right to protest

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has dismissed the accusations that requesting details of the leaders of all protesting groups is an attempt to rewrite the constitution, adding that it falls within their professional duties.

This was conveyed in a statement by the Police High Command spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Sunday, July 28.
