Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially approved a minimum wage of N85,000 for government employees across the state.
This announcement was made during a press briefing on October 18, marking a pivotal step in improving the living standards of public workers.
Governor Fubara said that the new wage structure reflects the state government's commitment to prioritising the welfare of its workforce.
He stated, "This decision underscores our dedication to ensuring that civil servants in Rivers State are adequately compensated for their hard work and service to the state."
The implementation of the N85,000 minimum wage is expected to provide much-needed financial relief to civil servants, considering the economic challenges and high inflation that Nigerians have been facing recently.
The governor expressed hope that this increase would boost morale and productivity within the civil service.
The approval comes in the wake of rising living costs and demands from labour unions for better compensation.
Fubara assured that the state government is committed to ongoing dialogue with stakeholders to address the needs and concerns of civil servants effectively.
