- Ademola Adeleke restated his backing for Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid ahead of the 2027 elections
- He said tensions over local government control in Osun would not affect his commitment to the President
- Adeleke promised improved performance and urged party members to strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of future polls
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reiterated his endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 general election, despite ongoing political tensions in the state.
The governor made this known during a meeting with cabinet members, special advisers and top government officials at the Government House in Osogbo. The development was disclosed in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
Adeleke stated that the lingering crisis over control of local government areas in Osun would not affect his earlier commitment to support Tinubu’s re-election.
“We have no problem with President Tinubu. He is our leader. He represents the South West. I restate our endorsement of Mr President for re-election in the best interest of the South West,” he said.
The meeting was attended by several prominent figures, including Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, Osun State House of Assembly Speaker Adewale Egbedun, and Accord State Chairman Victor Akande, among others.
The governor also expressed satisfaction with the growing popularity of the Accord in the state, noting that its support base continues to expand beyond Osun. He commended residents for embracing the party and highlighted ongoing grassroots mobilisation efforts.
Adeleke assured citizens of improved governance, pledging to intensify efforts in infrastructure development, youth and women empowerment, agriculture, education and healthcare.
“Our excellent performance so far will be redoubled when we get re-elected,” he said, adding that his administration would prioritise agro-industrialisation and enhanced access to quality social services.
He also directed party members and aides to strengthen party structures across all 332 wards in the state through membership drives and voter mobilisation ahead of future elections.
The endorsement comes against the backdrop of a prolonged political dispute over control of local government councils in Osun, involving members of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party. The crisis has led to legal battles and, at its peak, resulted in violent clashes that claimed several lives.
Despite these tensions, Adeleke maintained that his political alignment with the President remains unchanged, signalling a strategic stance as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 elections.
