The Oyo State Government has begun the distribution of subsidised food items to workers across the state ahead of the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The initiative, facilitated through the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS), is part of the state government’s efforts to ease the economic burden on workers during the festive period.

Speaking during the unveiling of the programme in Ibadan, the Chairman of ACCOS, Sheikh Akeugberu Akeugbagold, said the exercise reflects the administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and food accessibility.

According to a statement released by the state Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, Akeugbagold, who was represented by the Coordinating Head of the corporation, Mr. Tunde Oladejo, disclosed that more than N120 million was spent on procuring the food items.

He explained that the subsidised commodities include rice, Kings vegetable oil, and rams, which are being made available to interested workers across the state at reduced prices.

“The gesture forms part of the welfare-driven programmes of the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, geared towards improving the wellbeing of workers in the state,” Akeugbagold said.

He further stated that beneficiaries would repay the cost of the items through salary deductions spread over three months, beginning from July 2026 salaries.

According to him, the programme demonstrates the government’s resolve to support civil servants amid rising living costs and ensure they celebrate the Sallah season with ease.

Akeugbagold also urged workers to continue supporting the policies and programmes of the state government, assuring them that the Makinde administration would sustain people-oriented initiatives aimed at improving the standard of living in the state.
