- EFCC arrested former Power Minister Saleh Mamman in Kaduna after his conviction
- He was recently sentenced to 75 years imprisonment over alleged ₦33.8 billion fraud
- The case is described as one of Nigeria’s most significant anti-corruption convictions
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, following his recent conviction and sentencing by the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged financial misappropriation during his time in office.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede confirmed that Mamman was apprehended at about 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to the anti-graft agency, the former minister was arrested in Kaduna alongside two individuals alleged to have been shielding him from authorities after his conviction.
The residence where the arrest took place is also reportedly under investigation by the commission.
Mamman served as Nigeria’s Minister of Power between August 2019 and September 2021 under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He was sworn into office on 21 August 2019 after his nomination by Buhari and subsequent confirmation by the Senate.
However, on 1 September 2021, Buhari removed Mamman from office during a cabinet reshuffle and replaced him with Abubakar Aliyu, who was then serving as Minister of State for Works and Housing.
In May 2026, the Federal High Court convicted Mamman on charges relating to fraud and money laundering involving more than ₦33.8 billion.
The court subsequently sentenced the former minister to 75 years’ imprisonment after finding him guilty of multiple counts linked to the alleged diversion and laundering of public funds during his tenure in office.
The case has drawn widespread public attention, with anti-corruption advocates describing it as one of the most significant convictions involving a former cabinet member in recent years.
The EFCC has not yet released further details regarding the two individuals arrested alongside the former minister or the ongoing investigation into the Kaduna property.
