The announcement was made on Wednesday, April 1, in Abuja by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government. The two days mark Good Friday and Easter Monday, key dates in the Christian calendar.

In his message, the minister extended warm congratulations to Christians both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, urging them to reflect on the significance of the season.

“I congratulate all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter. I urge Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.”

He further emphasised the need for unity and peaceful coexistence across the country, noting that Easter serves as a reminder of shared values.

“Easter is a period that reminds us of the values of tolerance and community that keep us together as a nation. Nigerians should remain committed to these ideals for the progress of our country.”

Tunji-Ojo also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to national growth and development through people-focused policies.

“The goal of the government remains taking decisions that would bring about national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity for all Nigerians.”

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the minister reiterated his goodwill message and wished Christians a peaceful and joyous Easter celebration.
