Damilola Marshal, daughter of Fuji music legend King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, has formally announced her intention to contest for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Surulere Constituency 2.
The announcement was made on Tuesday via her Instagram account, where she expressed her commitment to serve her community and be a voice for youth and women in the legislature.
“I am excited to share that I, Barr. Damilola Ayinde Marshal, am stepping forward to serve the good people of Surulere Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly,” she wrote.
Damilola, a lawyer with 12 years of professional experience, said her legal background has shaped her understanding of governance, justice, and the needs of her constituency. She described herself as “a woman of excellence and results” and pledged to advocate for what truly matters to her community.
“As a young woman, I believe this is exactly what my people need right now, and that is why I decided to step forward,” she added, urging voters to support competence and progress. She concluded her message with the rallying cry: “Youth Lokan!!! Igbega Eko, Ajumose wa ni.”
She is expected to succeed Mosunmola Rotimi Sangodara, who currently represents the constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Damilola graduated in law from North America University, Houdegbe, in Cotonou, Benin Republic, and was called to the Nigerian Bar on 15 December 2015. She later earned a Master of Laws (LL.M) from the prestigious University of Lagos in 2022.
She was appointed as Senior Special Assistant on Tourism to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on 3 May 2024, a move publicly acknowledged by her father during the coronation and birthday reception of Oba Sikirullah Apena.
Her declaration has attracted widespread attention on social media, with endorsements and congratulations from prominent Nigerians, including entertainers Davido and Dayo Amusa, highlighting her growing political profile ahead of the upcoming elections.
