The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, February 18, adjourned the trial of former Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Professor Dibu Ojerinde, who faces charges of official corruption and abuse of office. The matter has been rescheduled for April 30.

The case, which was set before Justice Mohammed Umar, could not proceed due to the judge’s absence.

Justice Umar was reportedly engaged in another official assignment, prompting the adjournment.

Ojerinde is being prosecuted alongside four of his children, Mary Ojerinde, Olumide Ojerinde, Adebayo Ojerinde, and Oluwaseun Ojerinde, as well as other defendants.

Six companies linked to Ojerinde are also facing charges: Doyin Ogbohi Petroleum Limited, Cheng Marbles Limited, Sapati International Schools Limited, Trillium Learning Centre Limited, Standout Institutes Limited, and Esli Perfect Security Printers Limited.

The case, filed under FHC//ABJ/CR/119/2023, is one of several criminal charges brought against the former JAMB boss by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Ojerinde is additionally facing an 18-count charge over the alleged diversion of funds during his tenure as Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO) and as JAMB’s chief executive.

This case is before a sister court led by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, with a hearing scheduled for March 25.
