As the Department of State Services (DSS) investigates his alleged connections to wanted terrorists, Senator Buba’s constituents are gearing up for his recall movement.
Voters mobilise for recall referendum to remove Shehu Buba
A formal recall effort has begun, with registered voters in his district advocating for a referendum to remove him from office.
“This is a matter of national security. We cannot have someone with such affiliations in office,” a constituent declared, according to reports.
The recall campaign is gaining momentum as more individuals sign the petition to activate the process. If successful, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will oversee a referendum, which could result in the unprecedented removal of a sitting senator by the people who elected him.
Buba under fire for links to terrorism
Buba's appointment as Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence came under intense criticism after the arrest of Abubakar Idris, a notorious terrorist in August 2024 was reportedly linked to the Senator, triggering outrage among his constituents, who demanded his removal and accountability.
Buba’s predicament worsened with revelations about his origins. While he represents Bauchi, investigations have uncovered that he is actually from Plateau State, prompting questions about his legitimacy.

Critics argued that his success was largely orchestrated by influential individuals, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Bauchi Governor Isa Yuguda.
Matawalle denies banditry links, dares political rivals to take oath with Quran
Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle swore on the Holy Quran and said he has no ties to bandits or criminal activities.
Matawalle dared General Ali Gusau, the former National Security Adviser (NSA),General Aliyu Gusau and Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara state to publicly swear on the Holy Quran to deny any involvement in banditry.
