Governor Bala Mohammed has approved the redeployment of commissioners and reassignment of State Executive Council members to oversee key ministries and offices in Bauchi State, following a wave of resignations within his cabinet.

The directive, announced in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, comes in response to the exit of several top officials who stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of future elections.

Among those who resigned are the Chief of Staff, Government House, Hassan Gamawa, alongside six commissioners. Their departure created immediate administrative gaps, prompting the governor to implement temporary measures to ensure continuity in governance.

To address the vacancies, Mohammed directed the immediate deployment of selected cabinet members to supervise the affected ministries and offices pending the appointment of substantive replacements.

Under the new arrangement, Hashimu Yakubu, Principal Private Secretary, will oversee the Office of the Chief of Staff at the Government House. Meanwhile, Dr Mohammed Lawal R/Zayam has been assigned to supervise the Ministry of Power, Science and Technology.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hassan Usman El-Yakub (SAN), will now oversee the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Similarly, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Usman Usman Shehu, has been tasked with supervising the Ministry of Water Resources.

In another key move, the Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Danlami Ahmed Kawule, will oversee the Ministry of Rural Development and Special Duties. Amina Muhammad Katagum, Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning and Multilateral Coordination, has been assigned responsibility for the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

Further adjustments see Mohammed Sadiq Shira, Commissioner for Cooperatives and SMEs, taking charge of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. Additionally, the Chief Security Adviser to the Governor, Sani Mohammed (rtd.), has been directed to supervise the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs.

Governor Mohammed urged the reassigned officials to demonstrate commitment and professionalism in their new roles, emphasising the need for effective service delivery despite the transitional phase. He also encouraged them to work closely with Permanent Secretaries to ensure the smooth running of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The reshuffle underscores the administration’s effort to maintain stability and continuity in governance as political activities begin to reshape the composition of the state cabinet.
