- Members from all 332 wards in Osun expressed overwhelming support for the decision to leave the APC and align with a new political platform ahead of the 2026 election
- Aregbesola praised the group's unity and commitment to good governance, stating that this marks the beginning of a new chapter for Osun’s future prosperity
The Omoluabi Progressives, a political group led by former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola, has announced its departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision was made during a monthly meeting held in Ilesa, where members across Osun’s 332 wards voiced their unanimous support for the move.
In a statement signed by the group's Organising and Publicity Secretary, Oluwaseun Abosede, the reasons for the exit included allegations of ostracism, unfair suspension and expulsion of members, and the perceived marginalisation of the group within the APC.
The group also expressed dissatisfaction with the party's handling of internal conflicts, which they argue led to APC’s poor performance in the last election cycle, weakening its position in Osun State.
“We were put to a voice vote, and the resolution to leave the APC was overwhelmingly affirmed,” Abosede said in the statement.
The group also affirmed its intention to align with a new political platform ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
Aregbesola, speaking at the meeting, praised the group’s commitment to integrity, character, and good governance. He described the exit from the APC as the start of a new journey to establish responsible leadership in the state.
"I am delighted that we are united in our decision. This is the beginning of a journey that will ensure Osun’s future prosperity.
“Our path is clear and full of promise. We will attract genuine people to join us in building a better Osun,” Aregbesola added.
The group has emphasised that it remains open to people from all political, religious, and socio-cultural backgrounds, confident that it has the numbers and political strength to lead Osun to greater heights.
"By God's grace, we shall succeed in making Osun the envy of others," he added.
