- APGA said its support was limited to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election
- The party rejected claims that it endorsed APC aspirants in Anambra
- It urged voters to ignore campaign posters suggesting a broader alliance
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has clarified that its support for the 2027 general elections is limited to the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and does not extend to candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State.
The clarification was made by the National Coordinator of the APGA Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, in a statement issued on Sunday.
Obigwe explained that recent comments by Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, who also serves as APGA’s national leader, had been misinterpreted by some political actors.
Governor Soludo has been promoting the phrase “Progressives are working together,” which some APC aspirants reportedly used to suggest a broader alliance between the two parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
This interpretation led to the circulation of campaign posters by certain APC candidates contesting for Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly seats in Anambra. The posters reportedly featured images of President Tinubu, Governor Soludo and the aspirants, alongside the slogan.
However, Obigwe dismissed such claims, urging the public not to be misled. He stressed that APGA’s position is clear: while the party supports Tinubu’s re-election, it will field its own candidates for all legislative positions in the state.
“The general public should not be deceived by the drowning campaign gimmicks of Anambra opposition politicians,” he said.
According to him, the governor’s statement about progressives working together refers strictly to the working relationship between the Anambra State government and the Federal Government under Tinubu’s administration, rather than any electoral alliance.
“It has nothing to do with Governor Soludo supporting APC aspirants contesting for Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly elections in Anambra,” Obigwe stated.
He reaffirmed that APGA remains committed to securing victories in legislative elections within the state, describing the contests as “a must-win” for the party.
Obigwe further noted that Governor Soludo would play a leading role in mobilising support for both President Tinubu’s re-election and APGA candidates in Anambra.
“In Anambra, it is Tinubu for President, APGA for Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly seats,” he said.
