Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Amaechi completed his registration at Ward 8 in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State on Friday morning.
The development comes shortly after suspected thugs reportedly attacked and set ablaze the ADC office in the community earlier in the day.
Addressing supporters after registering with the party, the former governor of Rivers State appealed for calm, urging his loyalists not to resort to violence despite the incident.
“Don’t be violent because violence may lead to the death of somebody — don’t be violent. At the same time, they can’t stop us from meeting in our community,” Amaechi said.
He stressed the importance of maintaining peace and order while continuing political activities within the community.
Amaechi also commended the conduct of security operatives deployed to the area following the attack, praising both the state commissioner of police and the director of the Department of State Services (DSS) for their professionalism.
The former minister urged security agencies to move swiftly to identify and prosecute those responsible for the arson, warning that acts of intimidation would not deter the party’s supporters.
According to him, the attack on the party’s office should not discourage members or disrupt their political engagements in the area.
Amaechi maintained that the ADC remains committed to its political activities and will continue to organise and meet peacefully despite the incident.
