The Vice-Chancellor of Aletheia University, Professor Olukayode Akinyemi, has charged newly admitted students of the institution to maintain discipline, uphold integrity, and strive for academic excellence as they begin their academic journey.
Akinyemi delivered the message during the university’s third matriculation ceremony, which formally admitted 264 students for the 2025/2026 academic session. The event, held at the institution’s campus in Ago Iwoye, was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the university’s spokesperson, Ayodele Maraiyesa.
Addressing the students, the Vice-Chancellor emphasised the importance of focus, consistency, and strong moral character, noting that success within the institution would require deliberate effort rather than chance. He urged the matriculating students to embrace the values of discipline and hard work, stressing that the university provides a supportive environment for achieving academic and personal goals.
“This ceremony represents more than formal admission into the university,” Akinyemi said. “It is a structured affirmation of progress, purpose, and institutional continuity. You are entering a system that demands discipline, focus, and consistency.”
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the institution’s steady growth since receiving its operational licence in June 2023. According to him, the university began with 17 academic programmes across three colleges and just 33 pioneer students. It has since expanded to 34 fully approved programmes across six colleges, accredited by the National Universities Commission and relevant professional bodies, including the Council of Legal Education and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
Providing a breakdown of the newly admitted students, Akinyemi disclosed that 41 students were enrolled in Arts, Management and Social Sciences; six in Engineering; 40 in Science and Information Technology; 131 in Medical and Allied Health Sciences; and 46 in Law.
He also noted that the university has continued to invest in infrastructure development, administrative efficiency, and digital systems, alongside making strategic appointments to strengthen leadership capacity. He added that the institution is building a culture anchored on discipline, inquiry, and innovation, supported by a fourfold certification model comprising academic grounding, professional skills, entrepreneurial readiness, and ethical formation.
The founder and Chancellor of the university, Sansadeen Awosanya, was commended for his vision in establishing the institution. Akinyemi noted that the initiative has contributed to redefining the landscape of higher education in Nigeria.
In his remarks, Awosanya urged the students to regard their admission as both a privilege and a responsibility, encouraging them to pursue excellence while contributing meaningfully to society. “True education must produce not only sound minds but responsible citizens who understand their role in building a sustainable future,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, the Pro-Chancellor, Onikepo Akande, praised the university’s steady development and commitment to quality education. She encouraged students to remain focused and take full advantage of the opportunities available to them.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Chancellor’s wife, Alhaja Funmilola Awosanya, members of the Board of Trustees, and the Ogun State Coordinator and Deputy Director of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Hakeem AbdulHameed.
As part of the event, the university launched a tree-planting initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability. The exercise, formally flagged off by the Chancellor, saw participation from members of the Board of Trustees and university management. According to the institution, the initiative reflects its broader commitment to responsible development and environmental stewardship.
