In a recent statement, on Thursday, September 5, Ajaero spoke on Wednesday, September 4, at a two-day workshop for the northern zone of the country, He expressed cautious optimism about the new minimum wage but also highlighted the practical difficulties faced in its implementation.
The NLC leader noted that while the wage increase is a crucial step toward improving the livelihoods of Nigerian workers, the process of enforcing the new rate is fraught with complexities.
“The introduction of the new minimum wage is a landmark achievement for workers across Nigeria. However, the situation presents challenges that must be addressed to ensure that the benefits of this policy reach those it is intended to help.”
Ajaero pointed out several key issues affecting the implementation process.
The NLC has called for a collaborative approach involving the government, employers, and labour unions to address these challenges. Ajaero urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure the wage increase is implemented effectively and equitably.
“We are committed to working with all relevant parties to overcome these hurdles. Our goal is to ensure that the new minimum wage achieves its intended purpose of improving workers' standard of living without unduly burdening businesses,” Ajaero added.
