The Nigeria Police has re-arraigned bloggers Precious Eze, Olawale Rotimi, Rowland Olonishuwa, and Seun Odunlami, introducing fresh allegations of cyberstalking and spreading false information regarding Guaranty Trust Holding Company on social media.
Defendants face 10-count charges against GTCO
The defendants who were rearranged on Monday, October 14, in the Federal High Court in Lagos are facing a total of ten counts filed by the Police, which include conspiracy, cyberstalking, false and misleading publications, extortion, threats, and a decrease in shares and market value.
The court initially arraigned the defendants on September 27, 2024, on two counts related to cyberstalking and the distribution of false information against Segun Agbaje, the Chief Executive Officer of Guaranty Trust Holding Company PLC.
After the pleas were taken, Justice Ayokunle Faji ruled that they should be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
Defendants plead not guilty, to remain at correctional facility
During the proceedings on Monday, October 14, the police prosecutor, Ajibola Aribisala (SAN), together with Olaotan Ajose-Adeogun (SAN), announced to the court that the charges against the defendants had been updated to 10 counts.
After the defendants pleaded not guilty, Justice Faji directed that they be held at the correctional facility pending the filing and hearing of their bail applications.
The case was thereafter adjourned to October 24, 2024, for the defence to file the bail application and serve it to the prosecution.
Court rejects sick Binance executive Gambaryan’s new bail application
Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that a federal high court in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, rejected the bail application of Tigran Gambaryan, the detained Binance executive.
Justice Emeka Nwite rejected Gambaryan’s application, stating that it was an abuse of court processes because Gambaryan had already appealed his first rejected bail application.
