- The RCCG General Overseer Enoch Adeboye says Nigeria’s next president has already been decided by God ahead of the 2027 elections
- Adeboye said that the 2027 presidency is beyond human effort and subject to divine will
- He urged Nigerians to stay peaceful, prayerful and hopeful as political activities intensify
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, has said Nigeria’s next president has already been chosen by God ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Adeboye made the remark on Saturday, May 2, during a workers’ meeting at Redemption City, located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where he spoke on the role of faith, politics and leadership in shaping the nation’s future.
According to the cleric, the outcome of the 2027 presidential election is not solely in the hands of political actors or voters, but ultimately rests on divine authority.
He said, “The next president has already been decided by God who owns the universe. It is not something we can determine by human effort alone. The will of God will be done.”
Adeboye urged Nigerians not to be overwhelmed by anxiety over the country’s political climate, stressing that God remains in control of national affairs.
“I never said we should not be involved in politics, but we must understand that God has the final say in the affairs of men,” he said.
As political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of 2027, the RCCG leader called on citizens to remain peaceful, prayerful and hopeful.
“We should do our part, but we should also keep on praying and trust God. That is what is satisfying to me,” he added.
Adeboye also addressed remarks credited to activist Omoyele Sowore, who had reportedly referred to him, Bishop David Oyedepo and Pastor William Kumuyi as “fathers of Christians in Nigeria.”
Responding, the cleric rejected the suggestion that he should be regarded as the spiritual father of all Christians in the country, clarifying that his responsibility is limited to the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
“Sowore said that we are not the fathers of Christians but we are denominational fathers. He is very correct. I don’t want to be father of all Christians in Nigeria. I’m satisfied with being the father of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. That’s enough assignment for me.
“I have never wanted to be the father of all Christians in Nigeria. The CAN President is the father leader of Christians in Nigeria.”
He further dismissed claims circulating on social media that the RCCG operates as an extension of the ruling All Progressives Congress, insisting that the church remains independent and has consistently spoken out on national issues, including economic hardship.
Adeboye said the church’s position on governance is guided by principle, not political loyalty, adding that he would join a peaceful protest if called upon by the Christian Association of Nigeria.
“I have protested before during the Goodluck Jonathan administration,” he said.
He also clarified that while politicians are free to attend church programmes at the Redemption Camp, they would not be permitted to use the altar or church platform for political campaigns.
Netizens react as Oyedepo says “give kidnappers my number”
Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the Founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, David Oyedepo, triggered widespread debate online after urging his congregation to give kidnappers his phone number if they are abducted.
To support his claim, the cleric recounted two incidents involving church members. In one case, he said a pastor was abducted and eventually handed a phone to speak with him.
TheRadar has compiled some reactions on social media ranging from support to strong criticism as the video sparked widespread debate.
