President Tinubu vows to tackle corruption and promised not to spare any Nigerian
  • President Bola Tinubu pledged to tackle corruption and said no Nigerian will be spared
  • He noted that corruption is a cancer that has been denying Nigerians the full benefits of its resources
  • Nigerians reacted, some told him to start fighting corruption from himself and his fellow politicians

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised to tackle corruption in the country and stressed that no corrupt Nigerian will be spared. He emphasised the need for collective action against corruption in Nigeria.

This was made known during his address at the 6th Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)/National Judicial Institute Capacity Building Workshop for Justices and Judges in Abuja on Monday, October 7.

The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, who represented President Tinubu, disclosed that his administration aims to fight corruption through strengthened anti-corruption agencies and judicial reforms.

According to Vanguard, He said Nigeria’s corruption crisis has reached alarming levels, denying the nation the full benefits of its resources.

The President, however, acknowledged that prosecution of corruption cases had improved remarkably, following the justice sector reforms in the past few years.

He said: “No Nigerian is immune from corruption, a cancer which continues to deny the nation the full benefits of its God-given resources. Rather than look up only to the anti-corruption agencies for a solution to this malaise, I believe it is in our enlightened collective interest to close ranks and aggressively tackle this common enemy.

“We must tackle challenges impeding the speedy adjudication of corruption cases, including frivolous applications and appeals, intimidation of judges by counsel, judgment not based on facts of cases but on technicalities.

“We will also continue to support the work of the EFCC to ensure that it continues to deliver its statutory mandate without let or hindrance.”

Nigerians react to Tinubu’s statement

Many Nigerians, while reacting to the President’s statement, have called on Tinubu to start his fight against corruption from his fellow politicians. Some netizens claimed the President is not to be trusted as his predecessor whom he endorsed said the same thing for eight years and did nothing.

Others have called Tinubu a lair and stated that he is just deceiving Nigerians.

@Chief_emperor11 posted: “Nigerians already tired of this statement from every political office holder. They need action to speak louder than voice. I think President needs overhaul from the office of EFCC to drive citizens to the top gear to belief in government press release again.

We need trust back…”
