President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of seven distinguished Nigerians to head critical agencies and initiatives within the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development in Abuja, The appointments were announced in a statement on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, by the Presidency.

These appointments aim to strengthen the ministry's efforts in addressing humanitarian challenges and fostering social development across the nation.

Dr Badamasi Lawal has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA). He holds a doctorate degree in education and brings his extensive experience as a former commissioner in Katsina State to the role.

Ms Funmilola Olotu will serve as the Programme Manager of the National Social Safety-Net Coordinating Office. Ms Olotu, holding a master's degree in business administration, is currently the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on state lotteries.

Ms Aishat Alubankudi has been appointed as the Programme Manager of the Grant for Vulnerable Groups. With a bachelor’s degree in community development, Ms Alubankudi has a robust background in risk assessment and financial management.

Princess Aderemi Adebowale will take on the role of Programme Manager for the Home Grown School Feeding initiative. Princess Adebowale holds a doctorate degree and has served as the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Civic Engagement, in addition to her previous role as a local government chairperson.

Mr Abdullahi Alhassan Imam has been named the Programme Manager of the National Cash Transfer Office. With a bachelor’s degree in accountancy, Mr Imam brings his expertise from his previous positions as chief accountant at Northern Dairies Ltd and as a bank manager.

Mr Ayuba Gufwan has been appointed as the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for People with Disabilities. Mr Gufwan holds an LLB and is the executive director of the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Centre in Jos.

Ms Lami Binta Adamu Bello will serve as the Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons. Ms Binta holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration and has held significant positions such as Secretary-General of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Permanent Secretary roles at the Federal Ministry of Health and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

The statement further added that “The President expects the new heads of these critical agencies and programmes to discharge the functions of their offices with utmost integrity and diligence so as to ensure that Nigerians, especially vulnerable groups, are the exclusive and direct beneficiaries of his administration’s reconfigured welfare programmes.

Tinubu signs N70,000 minimum wage bill into law

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu signed the minimum wage bill into law on Monday, July 29, at the State House in Abuja after months of negotiations involving government authorities, labour unions, and the private sector.  

The minimum wage bill, which was signed midway into the Federal Executive Council meeting, will now be reviewed and increased every three years instead of the previous five-year interval.
