The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, Chief Edward Percy Masha, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to reclaiming political control of the state in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released on Wednesday, April 30, Masha highlighted the growing disillusionment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the rising popularity of the PDP as key indicators of a shift in public sentiment.

Since assuming leadership of the PDP six months ago, Masha has focused on fostering reconciliation, strengthening party unity, and building grassroots structures.

He emphasised that the ongoing consultations with key stakeholders have repositioned the PDP as a formidable opposition force and a beacon of hope for the people of Kaduna.

While acknowledging the defection of some members to the APC, Masha remained confident that the PDP is united and resolute in its goals.

He commended the efforts of the party’s Reconciliation Committee, led by Shuaibu Miqati, for successfully addressing internal divisions within the party.

“We are committed to defending our seats in the National Assembly, retaining our three senatorial positions, and expanding our influence at both the state and federal levels,” Masha declared.

The PDP chairman did not shy away from criticising the APC-led administration of Governor Uba Sani, describing its “Sustain Agenda” as a mere continuation of policies that have exacerbated the suffering of the people.

Masha pointed to the ongoing insecurity in various local government areas, including Kauru, Kaura, Zangon-Kataf, Kajuru, Lere, and Birnin Gwari, as clear evidence of the state government’s failure to improve federal security initiatives.

“Workers are on strike, hospitals are underfunded, and rural infrastructure is in disrepair,” he lamented.

Masha further accused the state government of financial mismanagement, alleging that public funds are being diverted to extravagant events associated with incomplete or fictitious projects.

In contrast, Masha lauded the achievements of PDP lawmakers, asserting that they have delivered essential services such as boreholes, classrooms, laboratories, healthcare centres, agricultural support, scholarships, and empowerment schemes to alleviate the hardship faced by residents.

On the legal front, Masha revealed that the PDP is seeking the removal of all 23 local government chairmen and 255 councillors in the state. The party is pursuing a court-led process to restore democratic governance at the grassroots level.

“Our people want change, and the PDP is ready to deliver that transformation, We’ll continue to hold the government accountable and present credible alternatives,” Masha stated.

With confidence, Masha declared that the PDP intends to surpass its 2023 performance and reclaim the governorship in 2027. He warned that any attempt by the APC to rig the elections would be firmly resisted.

Masha also urged party members and supporters to stay united and optimistic, assuring them that the PDP is fully prepared to lead Kaduna towards a brighter future.

We remain strong, defectors will return, PDP forum predicts

Meanwhile, TheRadar reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Forum of Former Speakers forecast the return of several politicians who left the party in recent years to join other political platforms.

The forum reiterated that the PDP remains the most widely accepted, well-organised, and best-positioned party to tackle Nigeria's challenges.
