The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reassured its supporters that the party’s governors and key stakeholders are united in their efforts to re-strategise and restore hope for Nigerians by stabilising the party.
Plateau State governor, Caleb Mutfwang, made this statement on Friday, November 22, during a Gala Night at the Banquet Hall, Government House Rayfield, in Jos, the state capital.
The event served as a platform for the PDP Governors’ Forum to hold an important strategic meeting.
Governor Mutfwang expressed his gratitude to the governors and party members who had travelled from across the country to participate in the forum.
He underscored the significance of the gathering, which was aimed at charting a way forward for the PDP and reinforcing its position as the party of choice for Nigerians.
“Although this is primarily a meeting of governors, it is gratifying to see party leaders and stakeholders from various states filling this room to support the governors as we strategise to ensure not only the stability of our party but also its ability to continue providing hope to Nigerians,” Mutfwang remarked.
He also highlighted Plateau's historical importance to the PDP, recalling that the state hosted the party’s first convention to elect the inaugural President of the Fourth Republic and produced the PDP’s first National Chairman.
He proudly referred to Plateau as the “Home of PDP” and reflected on the successes of his administration, particularly in restoring peace and trust to the state after years of challenges.
“By the grace of God, after years of miserable leadership by the opposition on the Plateau, the people have welcomed their party back. The PDP and I are determined to improve the lives of our people and fulfil the party’s mandate of social justice and empowerment,” Mutfwang added.
Senator Bala Mohammed, the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, also addressed the gathering, commending the party’s stakeholders for their continued support.
He emphasised the party's unity and its unwavering position as a political force committed to offering Nigerians hope and good governance.
“We are here on the Plateau, and Governor Mutfwang has shown us that Plateau is indeed a melting pot where everyone is welcome. The PDP remains an indivisible party. Despite minor hiccups, we are united with all organs and leaders of the party. We will continue to work together to provide Nigerians with opportunities for better governance,” Senator Mohammed affirmed.
Oyo State governor and vice chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Seyi Makinde, also reassured PDP supporters of the governors' resolve to reform the party and restore its leadership role in Nigerian politics.
Other notable dignitaries who attended the Gala Night included Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), Governor Kefas Agbu (Taraba), Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and the Deputy Governors of Bayelsa, Enugu, and Plateau States. Also in attendance were the PDP Acting National Chairman, Illiya Damagum, former Plateau Governor Senator Jonah David Jang, former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi, former Niger State Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, and Chairman of the PDP Ministers’ Forum, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, alongside other key party stakeholders.
2027 polls: Let’s fix PDP to save Nigeria — Saraki, Makinde make appeal
Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that as Nigeria approached the 2027 general elections, two key figures within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State called on PDP’s stakeholders to unite and revitalise the party in order to offer a clear, hopeful path for Nigeria’s future.
The two leaders made the appeal on Wednesday, November 6, during the inauguration and unveiling of the Board of Governors of the Peoples Democratic Institute (PDI) in Abuja.
