The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Ude Okoye, led a high-profile delegation of party chieftains to visit the party's 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, following his resignation from the party.
The visit, which took place on Wednesday, March 5, at Adediran's Abuja office, was confirmed by his spokesperson, Mr Gbenga Ogunleye.
In the statement, Ogunleye revealed that the delegation urged the former Lagos PDP candidate to reconsider his resignation, which he announced just days earlier.
Adediran, the leader of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, formally resigned from the PDP on Monday, March 3, citing betrayal and a lack of discipline within the party. His decision sent shockwaves through the political landscape, with many speculating on his next steps.
The PDP delegation, which included Okoye, former National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, and former House of Representatives member Shina Peller, expressed their desire for Adediran to remain with the party.
They acknowledged the reasons behind his decision but urged him to withdraw his resignation and return to the PDP fold.
Despite the appeals, Adediran maintained his stance, assuring the PDP leaders that he was open to collaborating with political allies in the future, regardless of their party affiliations.
He expressed his appreciation for their support during the visit but confirmed that his decision to leave the PDP remained firm.
Jandor’s resignation, which he described as a culmination of party elders' betrayal and the PDP’s inability to resolve internal crises in Lagos State, was not just a personal decision but one that saw him leaving with his supporters from across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas of the state.
Jandor also hinted that further developments would be disclosed in the coming months.
