- Siminalayi Fubara denied social media reports claiming he defected from the APC
- The Rivers governor insisted that he remains loyal to the ruling party
- Fubara also highlighted the reconstruction of a hospital aimed at improving healthcare access in Rivers State
Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed rumours suggesting that he defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that he remains loyal to the party.
Fubara made the clarification on Wednesday while speaking to journalists after inspecting the newly reconstructed Rivers State Psychiatric Hospital, which has now been upgraded into a general hospital in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The governor described reports circulating on social media about his alleged move to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) as false and misleading, urging members of the public to ignore the speculation.
“I’m a member of the APC, and nothing has changed. Whatever happens, what is important is supporting the overall interest of the party,” Fubara stated.
According to him, there has been no change in his political affiliation, adding that his focus remains on supporting the party and delivering governance to the people of Rivers State.
The governor emphasised that social media rumours should not be taken seriously, especially when they are not backed by official statements or credible information.
His remarks come amid increasing political speculation surrounding alignments and possible defections ahead of future political contests in the country.
Beyond addressing the political rumours, Fubara also spoke about the newly completed hospital project, explaining that the decision to reconstruct and upgrade the former psychiatric hospital was based on the healthcare needs of residents in the area.
According to the governor, an earlier assessment visit revealed that many residents had limited access to quality healthcare services and often had to travel considerable distances before receiving medical treatment.
He noted that the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital had previously been the closest major medical facility available to many people living in the area.
Fubara explained that the upgraded hospital is intended to improve access to healthcare services and reduce pressure on existing medical institutions within the state.
He described the completion of the project as part of his administration’s commitment to delivering people-oriented projects that directly impact the well-being of residents.
The governor further stressed that healthcare remains a major priority for his administration, adding that more infrastructural and social development projects would continue across Rivers State.
The clarification regarding his political affiliation is expected to calm speculation among supporters and political observers who had reacted to the online reports suggesting a possible defection from the APC.
