- Asari-Dokubo issued a warning to the organisers of the nationwide hunger protest
- He said Tinubu won the election despite challenges and deserves to govern
- He pointed out that the issues highlighted by the protesters do not reflect those of the Niger Delta people
The former militant-turned-activist, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo issued a warning to the organisers of the planned nationwide hunger protest slated for August 1 to steer clear of the Niger Delta region.
He mentioned this at a conference with the theme ‘Come let us build together’ in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday, July 30.
Protest would be met with resistance
Asari-Dokubo pointed out that the issues highlighted by the protesters do not reflect those of the Niger Delta people and cautioned against taking the protest to the region, warning that it would be met with resistance.
He said, “I and all those who believe in me and those of you who are committed to the interest of the Niger Delta, we are not going to be part of any protest. It is as clear as that”.
“If anybody has the right to protest, I also have the right to resist protest. Where your right stops, that is where my right begins,” he added.
Niger Delta’s needs are not on protesters list
He further said, “Are our needs included in their 10 points demand? No. So, we are not important to them. But it is our resources that they want to share. I want to say that me, I have the capacity. If you carry your protest near where I am, you will collect (be resisted)”.
The former Niger Delta freedom fighter remarked that President Bola Tinubu won the election despite significant challenges and deserves the chance to govern.
Referring to the #EndSARS protest, Asari-Dokubo claimed that those who provoked unrest in Oyigbo received their due consequences. He urged people to focus on the real effects on society and the environment rather than being misled by elaborate speeches.
Focus is on Niger Delta's resources - Asari-Dokubo
Asari-Dokubo mentioned that the protesters are solely focused on the Niger Delta's resources, labelling them as "anarchists."
He also alleged that some of those who were defeated in the 2023 presidential election were behind the protest to topple the government and warned the protesters to avoid being used by these figures, as it would lead to the region's exploitation.
“Look, don’t be deceived by people’s flowery words and statements. What have they done to impact their society and the environment?” he stated.
NLC, IGP, and others react to the upcoming August 1 protest
Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the special adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga said the call for revolution is a call for coup d’etat.
The report comprised the reactions from other statesmen who are opposing the protest against Tinubu’s government and the increasing economic difficulties.
