A presidential aspirant under the All Progressives Congress, Sagir Maidoya, has urged members of the ruling party to prioritise unity ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that internal divisions could weaken the APC’s chances at the polls.

Maidoya, a party chieftain from Maiburuji Ward in Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State, said the APC must remain cohesive and disciplined if it hopes to preserve its electoral advantage and maintain control at the federal level.

In a statement issued on Friday, May 1, the presidential hopeful reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and the leadership of the APC, describing the ruling party as a major pillar in Nigeria’s democratic development.

“The APC remains the foremost stabilising force in Nigeria’s democratic journey. With a clear mandate anchored on the Renewed Hope Agenda, our party has continued to demonstrate capacity, resilience and direction in steering the affairs of our nation,” he said.

Maidoya stressed that party unity must come before personal ambition, insisting that collective interest would determine the APC’s success in the next election cycle.

“A united APC is an unbeatable APC. It is only through cohesion, discipline, mutual respect and collective commitment that we can consolidate our achievements and secure a resounding victory in the 2027 general elections,” Maidoya stated.

He also alleged that opposition groups were already moving to exploit signs of division within the ruling party through strategic alliances aimed at weakening the APC ahead of the next polls.

“Recent developments indicate that opposition elements are attempting to capitalise on perceived differences within our ranks by orchestrating opportunistic alliances designed to mislead Nigerians and derail our progress,” he said.

He added, “Let it be clearly stated: no coalition built on convenience, desperation or mere power-seeking can rival the strength, depth and credibility of a party grounded in ideology, service and the enduring trust of the Nigerian people.”

The APC presidential aspirant called on party leaders, stakeholders and grassroots members to strengthen internal harmony and deepen engagement with Nigerians across all levels.

“We must remain focused on delivering good governance while reinforcing the unity that has sustained our dominance since 2015,” he said.

Speaking on his presidential ambition, Maidoya said his interest in the 2027 race was driven by service, national progress and the desire to strengthen the party.

“As an aspirant for the presidency in 2027, my ambition is not driven by personal gain, but by a sincere commitment to contribute meaningfully to the continued growth of our party and the advancement of our nation,” he said.

He added that he was prepared to work with party stakeholders to promote inclusiveness and mobilise grassroots support ahead of the election.

“The road to 2027 must not be defined by individual aspirations, but by a shared vision—one party, one purpose, one Nigeria,” he said.

Maidoya’s call comes as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, with major parties already witnessing subtle alignments, consultations and power moves.

Political observers say the APC’s ability to manage internal disagreements, maintain party discipline and consolidate support across its base may prove decisive in shaping its electoral fortunes in the next general election.

Since emerging in 2013 from a coalition of opposition parties, the APC has remained a dominant force in Nigerian politics, unseating the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015 and retaining power through successive election cycles.

With growing opposition consultations and early coalition talks already underway, analysts say the ruling party’s internal unity could become one of the defining factors in the 2027 presidential contest.

APC warned against disloyalty as opposition eyes disgruntled members in Ekiti

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the Senate Leader of Nigeria’s 10th National Assembly, Opeyemi Bamidele, had issued a stern warning to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, cautioning against disloyalty and covert alliances with opposition groups.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Ado-Ekiti, Bamidele stressed that internal divisions within the party could provide fertile ground for opposition parties such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to recruit dissatisfied members.

Bamidele urged party faithful to remain loyal and committed, emphasising that effective internal management is key to avoiding a crisis.
