All public and private schools in Kwara State are expected to resume academic activities on Monday, April 20, 2026, as the third term officially begins after a three-week holiday.

The announcement was made by the Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development in a statement released on Saturday by the ministry’s Press Secretary, Peter Amogbonjaye.

According to the ministry, the resumption date was reached after consultations with major stakeholders in the education sector.

Speaking at the ministry’s headquarters in Ilorin, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, said the April 20 date aligns with the approved academic calendar for the third term.

He explained that the decision followed broad discussions with education stakeholders and reflects a shared commitment to ensuring a smooth start to the new academic term.

Olohungbebe praised teachers and non-teaching staff for their dedication, saying their efforts have contributed to the improved performance and learning outcomes recorded in public schools across the state.

The commissioner also credited the progress in the education sector to the policies and investments of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration.

According to him, the improvements being recorded are the result of consistent policies, increased investment, and the commitment of stakeholders working together to strengthen education in the state.

He stressed the need for continued collaboration among teachers, school administrators, parents, and government officials to sustain the gains already achieved.

Olohungbebe further urged education workers to continue supporting government programmes aimed at improving the quality of teaching and learning.

He also advised students returning for the new term to remain disciplined, focused, and committed to their studies.

According to the commissioner, hard work and good behaviour will help students become worthy representatives of their families, schools, and Kwara State.
