- Michelle Obama advises women against moving in with a partner too early in a relationship
- She says cohabiting in the early stages can complicate matters before couples truly understand each other
- Obama further emphasised the need for emotional readiness, compatibility and patience
The former United States First Lady, Michelle Obama, has urged women not to move in with their partners too early in a relationship, highlighting the need for patience, self-awareness and emotional clarity before making such a significant decision.
Speaking on The TMZ Podcast, Obama warned that cohabiting at the early stages of a relationship can create complications before couples have had the chance to truly understand each other.
“If it’s early on in the relationship, you should not be moving in.
“First of all, I don’t care how much money he has or does not have,” she said.
She stressed that financial stability or comfort should never be the primary reason for deciding to live together, explaining that emotional readiness and genuine compatibility matter far more in the long run.
According to Obama, strong relationships are built on more than just early feelings of love.
“It might be controversial but I think you have to have a deep ‘likeness’, not love, for someone,” she said.
“Because it takes time to fully know how someone reveals themselves to you over time, to know whether your affections or feelings stand the test of time.”
She noted that every relationship passes through different stages and inevitable challenges, and couples need to go through those experiences before committing to major steps like sharing a home.
“There are so many tests you need in a relationship,” Obama stated, cautioning that rushing the process can result in future regrets.
Offering straightforward advice to young couples, she concluded: “My recommendation is always; take your time. Make moving in always way down the line.”
Trump sparks outrage with video depicting Obamas as monkeys
Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported the United States President, Donald Trump, had ignited a backlash on Friday, February 6, after sharing a video that portrays former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as monkeys.
Democratic leaders swiftly condemned the clip as racist, while the White House dismissed the criticism as exaggerated, insisting the post, shared late Thursday, February 5, on Trump’s Truth Social account, was merely an “internet meme.”
