South-East Nigeria comprises five states, which are Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states.

Even though the South East is the smallest of the six Geopolitical Zones, it has some affordable tourist destinations across the States.

TheRadar compiled a list of some tourist destinations in the SouthEast.

10 Affordable tourist destinations in South Eastern Nigeria 

1. Ndibe Sand Beach (Ebonyi State)

It is also known as Golden Sand Beach and it is located in Afikpo LGA of Ebonyi State. 

It is a good place for relaxation, picnics, sport fishing, swimming, hatching, etc.

2. Rolling Hills, Okigwe (Imo State)

This is one of the popular tourist destinations in Imo State. 

The Rolling Hills is where the hills lock, with varying heights and ruggedness, which adds to the fascinating environment.

3. Ngwu Spring Water (Imo State)

It is also known as Iyi Umugara. It is a natural spring located in Mkwere Local government area and has different natural scenes like the sparkling and crystal-like natural water.

It is not called a Waterfall, because it does not have the required height of a Waterfall.

This spring water never ceases to flow and even increases its flow during the dry season. This characteristic makes Ngwu Spring Water unique from other natural Spring Waters.

4. The Amakama Wooden Cave (Abia State)

It is a big tree but has a huge hollow that can conveniently contain 20 adults.

The tree has been there for a long time, which served as a refuge for the slaves during the colonial era. 

The Amakama Wooden Cave is protected by bees.

5. Silicon Hill (Enugu State)

The Hill is located near Nkalagu, Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT). It is 300 metres above sea level.

Silicon is naturally found in the area which is a raw material used in many manufacturing industries, the reason behind the name.

Silicon Hill is a good tourist destination because of the natural experience of hills and valleys.

6. Awhum Waterfall ('Enugu State)

It is located at Amu-Ugwu village, Awhum town. The Awhum Waterfall is 30 metres high and was formed by the massive outcrop of granite rock, which led to water flow at the top, forming a stream. 

It is interesting to note that some parts of the waterfall are usually warm throughout the seasons.

7. Azumini Blue River (Abia State)

This tourist attraction is unique because the river is originally blue in colour but turns green whenever it rains. The blue river is commonly called “Mini-Okigo” in Igbo.

The Blue River is located in Ndoki, Ukwa East LGA, Abia State.

8. Ngwo Pine Forest (Enugu State)

Ngwo Pine is located in the centre of Enugu State. It has a limestone cave with a small waterfall, which forms a shallow pool. 

The forest is a tourist attraction that is also used for recreation and relaxation.

9. National War Museum (Abia State)

This museum is used to preserve the historical heritage of the Civil War in Nigeria from (1967-1970).

It has different collections, such as tanks, armoured vehicles, aircraft, and ships. Most of the tanks are Biafran, while the aircraft is Nigerian.


10. Ogbunike Cave (Anambra State)

It is located in Ogbunike, Anambra State. This cave is a unique tourist attraction because of the availability of a network of tunnels and rooms that were used by the natives as a place of refuge during the wars.

Some people also believe it is a spiritual site which serves as a habitation for the gods of the land.
