Outrage as convicted child sex offender and scandal-hit DJ allegedly enter Nigeria.
  • Convicted U.S. child rapist, Frank Joseph Avbel, reportedly granted Nigerian visa
  • Avbel allegedly married a Nigerian citizen at the Ikoyi registry and has been seen around children
  • Concerns rise over safety and protection of children and vulnerable groups

There is growing public outrage following reports that Frank Joseph Avbel, a convicted child sex offender from Washington State, USA, has been granted a Nigerian visa and is currently residing in the country.

According to multiple social media posts, Avbel recently married a Nigerian citizen at the Ikoyi marriage registry in Lagos and has been seen interacting with children since his arrival.

His presence in Nigeria has sparked serious concerns, particularly regarding the country's visa vetting process and the lack of strict background checks on foreign entrants.

This incident isn’t isolated. British DJ Tim Westwood, who has faced numerous allegations of sexual misconduct in the UK, has also reportedly relocated to Nigeria.

A recent report by West Africa Weekly revealed that Westwood is now rebranding himself as a chef in Lagos.

He has already made public appearances, including hosting a nightlife event at Oniru Private Beach.

His relocation and reinvention have only intensified fears about how easily individuals with questionable histories can assimilate into Nigerian society without scrutiny.

The presence of such individuals in Nigeria has triggered widespread criticism online, with many Nigerians calling for urgent reforms in the country’s immigration policy.

The core of the criticism lies in the perceived loopholes in background checks and inadequate collaboration with international law enforcement agencies.

Many argue that Nigeria’s immigration system needs to be more vigilant, especially when granting entry to foreign nationals with serious criminal records.

Advocates and concerned citizens are now urging the Nigerian government to review and strengthen its visa issuance procedures.

They recommend implementing more thorough background checks and closer ties with foreign embassies, Interpol, and other international agencies to flag and deny entry to individuals with criminal histories, particularly those involving sexual offences and crimes against children.

With growing insecurity and increasing cases of abuse, Nigerians demand a more protective approach to immigration, one that ensures the safety of citizens, especially vulnerable populations like women and children, against potentially dangerous foreign entrants.

Outrage as 15-year-old boy allegedly defiles 14-year-old girl

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that Nigerians expressed their shock and anger at the case of a 14-year-old girl, Mercy, who was allegedly assaulted by her classmate, a 15-year-old boy named Goodluck Bison.

Many Nigerians took to social media to react to the matter, while some people think Goodluck Bison should be castrated and jailed, others advised parents to train their boys well.
