Popular Nigerian rapper and On-Air Personality Nnamdi Nwabasili, also known as N6, has confirmed fellow rapper Ycee’s departure from the music industry. He took to his X account to share the sad news with the public.
In a brief chat at a club, Oludemilade Martin Alejo, popularly known as Ycee, confirmed his exit from music, leaving N6 and many of his Nigerians in sadness.
Ycee, known for his hit single Jagaban, had been largely absent from the spotlight, fueling speculations about the end of his career. Although he had hinted at quitting music several times in the past, N6's confirmation has made it official.
He posted on his X (formerly Twitter) page @n6oflife, “Ran into Ycee recently at the Club and told him Let’s work on a Hit song asap; and i will shoot the Video immediately afterwards. Like Wsup.. 🤷🏽♂️
“He gave me an answer along the Lines of He Doesn’t do Music Again & my Heart broke. The game needs Ycee tbvh. 💔😢”
“Water comot my eye make I no lie. 😢 What’s Even crazier is Ycee Looks Chubbier, Healthier & more at Peace now so I honestly can’t blame him if he don’t wanna go back to this madness. 🥺”
In an interview with Pulse HQ in 2018, YCee revealed his journey trying to quit music. “In 2012, my first single came out, and from that point up until 2015, it was crazy because, at some point in that period, I almost quit music. I had already quit music cause I felt like it wasn’t going to work out.
“A lot of expenses were being incurred and we weren’t just getting the desired result. Not many people knew Ycee, and not many people accepted my music at the time, so, I felt like it just isn’t meant to work.”
Fast forward to 2021, granting an interview with Zikoko, he revealed he almost quit three times.
N6's announcement has sparked an outpouring of sadness from fans, who mourn the loss of Ycee's talent and potential in the music industry.
Ycee's departure leaves a void in the Nigerian music scene, and many sadly accept the end of an era.
